パライバトルマリンは、ブラジルのパライバ州「サンドンデ・バターリャ」で初めて産出されました。
そこからパライバという名前が付けられたのですが、実はこのパライバトルマリンが順調に採掘されたのはわずか一年ほど。

ブラジルで産出されたパライバトルマリンは、その独特の美しさから瞬く間に人気が爆発し、需要に対して全く供給が追いつかず、価格が一気に高騰したことなどから、「幻の宝石」と呼ばれるようになりました

パライバトルマリンは含まれる成分や産地などの違いによって、美しく澄んだブルーから、優しいライトグリーン、またはネオンブルーに輝くものまでのカラーバリエーションがあります！

ケイ酸塩鉱物であるトルマリングループの中の、リシア電気石(エルバイト/Eelbaite)に銅(Cu)が含有された石で、このことが発色の原因でもあります！

現在は、ブラジル以外の地域でもパライバトルマリンは採掘されていますが独特のネオン感はブラジルならではの地質ですね！
